Over & Next

Over and Next. As we say goodbye to 2019 and hello to 2020, let’s all please take a moment to contemplate these 2 little words. 

A few years ago, the then 94 year old legendary television producer, Norman Lear shared his philosophy for staying present and focused- his answer was the 2 words-Over and Next. And the present moment lies in between these 2 little words.

Over and Next are powerful. But the most important part of this philosophy is the “and”, the in between, the now. 

The past is over. The future is next. And the present moment is all we have. 

The past is OVER-let go of the past year, the past decade, the past you. Whatever happened, happened. Accept the past with gratitude. 

The future is NEXT. Do the brave work of creating a new version of you. Embrace this new beginning and Keep moving forward.  

And as you let go of the past and look forward to the future, remember to stay present. Our creative power lies in the in between of Over and Next- this present moment is all we have. .

In these last few moments of the year and into the next- keep “over and next” close to you.

The past is over. The future is next. The present moment is all we have.
